This Tour covers Tunisia from the south to the north focusing on the Star Wars locations. Many scenes from the famous movie were filmed in the south of Tunisia, becaue of its unique landscape and amazing architecture. Besides the star war location this tour boasts 4 UNESCO sights.
Day 1 Tunis
Upon arrival in Carthage International Airport, you will be met by your private driver/guide and taken to your hotel for check-in. Depending on your time of arrival, you will begin to explore Tunis with a visit to the old medina with the amazing architecture. Next stop will be the souks were you can shop North African handcraft products such as carpets, wool, spices, coper and many more. All the scenes in Star Wars Episode took place in southern Tunisia, so tomorrow we will take a local flight to Tozeur. Overnight in Tunis.
Day 2 Tozeur – Ong El Jemel
Today is rather a leisure morning in the oasis to discover the variety of products within a private oasis. After a carriage ride through the high palm trees, we will have a walking tour in the daily market and the old town to see the real daily life and admire the unique architectural style of this city. In the afternoon we will visit Ong Ej Jemal(the camel’s neck) the location filming of Star Wars. (Decorations Tatooine) It is situated between huge sand dunes. Overnight in Tozeur
Day 3 Tozeur – Sidi Bouhlel – Douz – Matmata
From Tozeur we head to Sidi Bouhlel where Many shots, from many different scenes in Star Wars: ANH were filmed, against a still very recognizable rocky background. Next we depart for further exploration of the south crossing the impressive salt lake to the town of Matmata that is famous for their traditional underground “troglodyte” houses that where used the Star Wars movies. The Hotel Sidi Driss was the location for the first Star Wars movie, and over again for The Phantom, and the Attack of the Clones. Hotel Marhala has also some amazing looking underground houses, and tunnels. The musee Berber is the place to find traditional Berber carpets. We will overnight in a traditional underground troglodyte house.
Day 4 Medenine – Ksar Ouled Soltane – Tataouine
Today we start exploring granary Ksar Medenine that acted as the slave quarters in Episode I, The Phantom Menace. It was used as the exterior of Anakin Skywalker’s home.
Second stop in the region is the photogenic place of Ksar Ouled Soltane. In this town their where also scenes shot from The Phantom Menace. It used to represented the slave quarters of Mos Espa. We overnight in the town of Tataouin that is famous for its name, because in the movie Luke Skywalker grows up on the planet Tatooine, inspired by this real town Tataouine. We overnight in Tataouine.
Day 5 Chenni – Douiret – Haddada – Tataouine
Today we will explore two beautiful old ruines of Chenini and Douriet. These Berber hilltop villages are also associated with the Star Wars film series. Many scenes for the movies were filmed in the area; one of the moons of the home planet of Luke Skywalker was named Chenini. Last excursion of today is Ksar Haddada. This Ksar has a unique architecture structure, and was once occupied by Hotel Ksar Haddada that was used as a location for the first Star Wars movie, The Phantom Menace. We overnight in Tataouine.
Day 6 Djerba – Hamet Souk- El Jem
Early morning we drive to the holiday island of Jerba to explore the location of Ben Kenobi’s Hermitage (the home of Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Toshi Station (- a power station sited next to the fictional town of Anchorhead). Next were are going to explore the capital of Djerba Houmt Souk. Visitors come from all over the world to explore the whitewashed mixture of Greek architecture, Italian Piazzas, and Arabic labyrinthine alleyways of Hamed souq. Late afternoon we will drive to Sousse. Overnight in Sousse.
Day 7 El Jem colleseum (UNESCO) – Kairouan(UNESCO) – Sousse
After breakfast we will explore the stunning UNESCO colosseum of El Jem. This colosseum is the third largest in the Roman world. It was built between AD 230 and 238, and it could hold up to 35,000 spectators. It illustrates the grandeur and extent of the Rome Empire. Next stop will be The city was founded by the Arabs around 670, who made this their first stronghold in North Africa. The city offers amazing sites such as the mosque of Sidi Okba, an ancient medina with great architecture, and the Aghlabid pool. We overnight in Sousse.
Day 8 Sousse medina (UNESCO) – Tunis
Before we drive back to Tunis we will explore the medina of Tunis. This UNSECO world heritage site, is one of Tunisians finest medina’s, and a relaxing place to wander around. It’s a popular tourists destination for foreigners, as it is with local Tunisians.
Day 9 Carthage (UNESCO) – Home
Early morning we will take a dive into history and explore the Roman UNESCO sight of Carthage. On the sight there are various highlight such as: Phoenician cemetery, Punic harbors, the Carthage Museum, the Roman baths of Antonine, the Roman villas, and many more. We will take you to Carthage International Airport. Please note that you must be at the airport 2,5 before departure.
