Sahara Camel Tour

This sahara camel tour is a great way to explore the sahara as a real nomad. You will spend 6 days on a camel travelling an average of 20 km a day through the Sahara Desert. You will eat traditional Berber food and sleep in tents under the amazing Sahara sky. The last day is for relaxing on the holiday island of Tunisia Djerba.

Day 1 Djerba Island airport

After your arrival at Djerba Island airport you will be welcomed by our staff who will take you to the town of Douz. This town is known as the gateway to the Sahara Douz is located about 475 kilometres south of the Tunisian capital of Tunis. It consist of 2 parts being, the town, and the zone touristique which is 3km southwest of the centre, and around the town you find the Great Dunes to explore the edge of the Sahara Desert. You will overnight in a 3* or 4* hotel in the town of Douz.

Day 2 Douz – Exploring the desert

After breakfast we will meet the camels where you will load your baggage, and organize the caravan to start your trek.  We will begin your camel journey by travelling through the big sand dunes towards Ben Chroud. When we arrive at Ben Chroud we will have a good lunch near a beautiful Sahara oasis. Our next stop will be Bir Elajimni and here you will have dinner and an overnight in tents under the amazing Sahara sky. 

Day 3 Exploring the Desert

The third day of your desert adventure will start with trekking to Bir Aoun that will be our first stop. Lunch will be served near another photogenic oasis.  Our second stop is at Chott Hajria where we will setup camp, and have dinner and spent the night.

Day 4 Exploring the desert

After breakfast you will departure to the Grand Erg Oriental where we will have lunch. After lunch you will depart to El Alanda, where we will set up camp to have dinner and to sleep under the stars.

Day 5 Exploring the desert

Each time we waking up in the desert is really something special. Our first stop of today will be Sidi Marzoug. At Sidi Marzoug you will have lunch and then depart for Sidi Gaoud where you will enjoy dinner and spend the night.

Day 6 Exploring the desert

This morning you will depart for Houmt Henda. You will have lunch at another photogenic sahara oasis and have some time to relax. You will spend your last night under the great Sahara night sky.

Day 7 Exploring the desert – Djerba

Today is our last day in the desert. After breakfast you will depart for Ain Ghidma. There you will have lunch and drive back to Douz, and then towards the island of Djerba. We will check in a lovely Dar, and have dinner and spend the night along the Tunisian coast.

Day 8 Djerba

We have included this day for relaxing our holiday island of Tunisia. There are several options for excursions such as the capital of the island Hamed souk, that’s truly a marvellous picturesque town, where you can shop all kinds of traditional handcraft products. Or visit the oldest synagogue of North Africa is El Ghriba Synagogue. But of course you can also just relax on the beach.

Day 9 Home

At leisure at you hotel, and transfer to the airport.
