Day 1 Tunis
Upon arrival in Carthage International Airport, you will be met by your private driver/guide and taken to your hotel for check-in. Depending on your time of arrival, you will begin to explore Tunis with a visit to the old medina with the amazing architecture. Next stop will be the souks were you can shop North African handcraft products such as carpets, wool, spices, coper and many more. Depending on the time we will also visit the visit modern Tunis. Overnight in Tunis
Day 2 Bardo Museum – Carthage (UNESCO) – Sidi Bou Said
Early morning we will first explore the fantastic museum of Bardo. This museum contains some the most complete and valuable Roman Mosaics in the whole world. After the museum we will head off to discover ancient UNESCO ruine of Carthage. It’s one of the best ancient roman cities in North Africa. You will take a dive into history and explore various highlights such as an amphitheatre, Phoenician Cemetery, Antonin’s Bath, Punic Harbors, the Carthage Museum and many more. The last stop of the day will be at the stunning photogenic village of Sidi Bou Said with its distinctive architecture that is a mix of the Andalusian, Ottoman, and of Spanish Muslims. Sidi Bou Said overlooks the Gulf of Tunis.
Day 3 Dougga (UNESCO) – Bulla Regia – El Kef
When breakfast is done we will drive to the UNESCO site of Dougga. The ancient ruine of Dougga has all components that are a testimony to more than 17 centuries of history. It is truly an example illustrating different cultures such as; Numidian, Punic, Byzantine, Roman, and the Arabs. Second stop of the day is Bulla Regia. This city was built by the Romans partly underground to protect them from the summer heat. There are also wonderful mosaic to admire. Overnight in the best hotel of El Kef, Dar Chennoufi.
Dinner will be served at the hotel.
Day 4 Makthar – Kairouan (UNESCO)
After breakfast we will continue our adventure to the spiritual city of Kairouan. But first we will take a quick stop at ancient city of Makthar that is located at an attitude of almost 1000meters. This is a city where the Carthaginian, Vandals, Byzantines and Romans all left their mark in with temples, arches and amphitheatres. Our final stop of today is the UNESCO city of Kairouan. The city was founded by the Arabs around 670, who made this their first stronghold in North Africa. The city offers amazing sites such as the mosque of Sidi Okba, an ancient medina with great architecture, and the Aghlabid pool. Dinner will be served in the hotel.
Day 5 Kairouan – Kasserine – Tamerza
Early in the morning we will head off to city of Kasserine that was the site of first WWII’s confrontations between American and German ground forces. Besides the war history there are also ruins that are spread over a wide area. The main sights are the triumphal arch. The Mausoleum that is in really good condition, and market as the best one in Tunisia. The theatre that has a stunning location, because is carved into a hillside, built in the 3th century. Then we will slowly head into the Tunisian desert. Your first stop will be the famous mountain oasis town of Tamerza. You will also visit the impressive gorge and canyon of Mides. Dinner will be served in the hotel.
Day 6 Tamerza – Metlaoui – Chebika
After breakfast we will start our desert adventure in our 4×4 vehicle. After driving deep in the gorge of the rock canyons you will get on board of the Lezard Rouge Train. This old fashioned train takes passengers on an adventurous journey that follows the natural path carved out by the Seldja Gorge. When you have enjoy a good lunch we will explore the great mountain oasis of Chebika with its waterfalls. We will drive to Tozeur, and dinner will be served in the hotel.
Day 7 Tozeur – Matmata
In the morning we will start to discover the oasis city of Tozuer. It’s a unique old town from the 14th century with its distinctive traditional handmade brickwork, were you nicely stroll around. Beside the unique old town its has a palmeraie that contains about 250.000 palm trees spread over an area of more than 12sq km, an very interesting museum. Than we will to a small Berber speaking town in southern Tunisia called Matmata, that is famous for their traditional underground “troglodyte” houses that where used the Star Wars movies. You will be spending the night in one of the troglodyte dwellings. Dinner will be served in the underground house.
Day 8 Mareth Military Museum – El Jem (UNESCO) – Sousse
After breakfast you will depart to a highlight of this tour, the stunning UNESCO colosseum of El Jem. This colosseum is the third largest in the Roman world. It was built between AD 230 and 238, and it could hold up to 35,000 spectators. It illustrates the grandeur and extent of the Rome Empire. There is also a visit planned to the WWII museum and visit the bunker of the German general Rommel. Your final destination will be the coastal city of Sousse.
Sousse is a popular tourist’s destination for foreigners, as it is with local Tunisians.
Day 9 Sousse medina (UNESCO) free time or day excursion
Today we don’t have anything special planed, but we are more than happy to take you on a guided tour through Sousse. De Medina of Sousse is an UNSECO world heritage site, so you can imaging its one of Tunisians finest medina’s, and a relaxing place to wander around. It’s a popular tourists destination for foreigners, as it is with local Tunisians.
Sousse was founded in 800 BC, so there is plenty of history to been seen in this ancient city. Some of the highlights are; the Great Mosque, the archeologically museum, the 11th century Medina’s water supply came through Citterns, and the Zaouia Zakkak minaret, built in the 17th century. We overnight in Sousse area.
Day 10 Sousse – Nabeul – Kerkouane (UNESCO)
On this day we will driving back to Tunis along the coast line of Tunisia. We will drive north towards Cap Bon that is located on the peninsula. Our first stop will be at the pottery capital of Tunisia Nabeul. After seen the inspiring colours of the pottery we will visit the UNSECO sight of Kerkouane which is home to some of the best preserved ruins of the Punic era. On the way to Tunis we will stop at some very beautiful spots to see the amazing Tunisian coastline. Overnight in Tunis.
Day 11 Home
Last day for shopping in Tunis.
